while I have been sorting cents, I have noticed that the zinc cents are not going to hold up to MR. TIME like the copper cents have..that said,,in a couple of years
, as the zinc gets trashed..collecting is going to be a bit different..more expensive for zinc's

I collect U.S., ancient Roman and world coins. I find that I switch back and forth between my collecting options.
For the last two years I have been buying the best grade U.S. type coins that I could afford, then, a few months ago, ancients caught my attention again and I'm focusing on them more now.
But that's the enjoyment of a hobby - you can collect what you want when you want it (money allowing).

Interesting...and very true. Currently, for my Lincoln set, I am needing: 1914 D (have an XF, need higher to match the set - probably not going to happen) ...the rest in MS63/4/5/6 BN/RB/RD 1919 S 1920 D 1920 S 1923 S 1928 S 1936 D Because I am landlocked from a B & M (100 miles or 350 miles) and coin shows are at least these distances. It is the quest. It IS the hunt. Started a Washington quarter set as well. Is actually just as challenging as the Lincolns - hard to find coins with solid detail....in plastic or not. |

At the rate I find new & interesting coins, I doubt I'll ever catch up. Receiving a coin package in the mail, is like Christmas morning all over again, any day of the year. The anticipation grows and I can't wait to get my mail. Prior to coin collecting, my mail would sit for up to 2 weeks in the mail box( it's locked). Now it's checked on a regular basis!!

I've noticed that as well Frodo. I appreciate everyone's point of view. I think I'm going to start upgrading and buying higher grade coins.  Edited by Mr Click

I have been collecting coins for over 50 years; this 'bug' is part of who I am.
You may quite happily assume that I will not be bored in this interest this side of time before I 'kick the bucket' !

I've sold a lot and become a type collector.
Buy less and better.

I might be satisfied when I have the sets of things I want, and my weight in gold coins.

@shadz If I had my weight in gold that would be 3,472 ounces of Gold! Can you guess how much I weigh?  I'd be worth 4.4 million!  Edited by Mr Click

Not gold but in silver.

I am satisfied ... that my decision to focus on a series was sound ... that my decision to sell other coins to support my goal was a sound decision ... and that any future changes will be a logical next step. IF I had to stop now buying coins, I would be satisfied with my Barber dimes. A solid set. |
