The provenance on some of those could take up a whole page to themselves. I can't even imaging what kind of money these will bring.

I purchased a copy of the 1822 gold book and enjoyed it immensely. I placed my order this morning for the other book

This collection is so far beyond me that I can't even really be interested in it. I am too excluded from it as a collector. That's just how I feel anyway.

Darth Morgan, I know what you mean as far as looking a these from a collector's point of view. I pretty much look at these coins like I would works of art. I look at them the way I might look at the Mona Lisa, or The Sistine Chapel. Only in this case it's something that I already have a strong passion for... coins.

Don't think I've heard of the Pogues. Do they do coppers? Large cents?

Dallas based real estate investors (really wealthy real estate investors), the family has several companies around the country.

They have been putting the collection together for awhile, yes they do copper, not sure how long though, they do include some coins purchased at the Goldberg's Missouri Half Cent Cabinet sale last year. I don't think they were looking for complete date sets, more type collecting the very best along with ultra rarities as they came available (They have 2 1804 dollars, one is the finest known, both are Class 1, so not looking at variety collecting either).

Just ordered the books that westcoin linked to above, can't wait to get them. I saw some of the coins on display at the Portland ANA show and they are without a doubt the most beautiful coins I have ever seen.

"do they do Coppers?"

Not only do they do coppers, they have the only mint state 1799 large cent in existence...

Apparently both books were delivered to my residence today. Can't wait to get home from work and get acquainted with them in my comfy chair.

We're getting really close to Part 1.

A week from tomorrow is May 19th. It starts at 4pm Pacific, 7pm Eastern at Sotheby's in New York.

I wonder if they'll be doing any kind of live video feed?

Here's auction site

Way Way over my budgets! But really nice to look at for the history and art point of view.
