I am truly torn between leaving the set intact or separating the dime out.
I most likely could use only the pennies out of the set as I already have all the rest with the exception of the '96w coin itself. That's my concern. If I could find the "w" dime itself my problem would be solved and I could sell the mint set and probably make the majority of my investment back or just keep it for the future.

Jbuck I was thinking of you when I was putting my 1976 40% Eisenhower into my album. This was the last coin that I needed for the album. That doesn't mean that I will be getting rid of the other 400+ Ike's that I have.
Another album completed.

Aseegz your comment is probably the most pragmatic. I've already decided to keep looking for just the single coin. No use in breaking up a set. I had earlier decided to do the same with the 40% coins in a 1976 set that contained the quarter, half, and Ike dollar. That way I get the set and eventually found the Ike I needed for my album. |

Buy a sacrificial 1996 Mint set with the W-dime. And if something happens to the cellophane holders, you'll have a replacement. Besides, the other coins in the new set might be in better condition than what you already have. I recently sold the 1996 11-coin set with the W-Rosie for $10 on an ebay auction. I should have had it with a reserve or BIN, but I thought the set would sell for $15+. Oh well... that's ebay auction style. So there's deals out there, you just have to be a little patient. |

No brainer - break it out. I've busted many mint sets up just for the Lincoln.

Crack it. I always crack these sets to get the coins I need for my albums. If I have duplicates or buy others , I give them to my kids to collect. The other posters are kind of right, if enough are cracked, the remaining ones will gain value.
But this isn't going to happen in my lifetime or yours, that is why I only collect OGP sets for my kids, maybe it will happen in their lifetime.

I am unable to consider the cello wrappers used for mint sets prior to 2007 as 'archival' quality! I have no reason to leave them in there; break them out and mount them up properly!
