I collect coins, not notes, so I'm probably completely wrong on this- but I was under the impression that star notes were only printed to replace errors of that serial number that were already destroyed. How is it possible to have these with same series, federal reserve bank, etc?

I see. Just did a bit of research, and I see where I was wrong.

Since the suffix "A" appears graded by PMG would someone be safe in assuming that another suffix series had to be reprinted?

If that thought is correct then jimbucks was extremely lucky to find the great bills. A good match and catch in any event.

ghostrider, no. There seems to be a great misunderstanding about star notes. They are not printed with the same serial number of so-called damaged notes (this practice ended in 1910), in fact they have nothing to do with them.

I suggest "The Comprehensive Catalog of United States Large Size Star Notes 1910-1929" by Douglas Murray page 6 as an explanation.

If the same serial number were printed for a replacement there would be no reason for the star. The star was designed to alert the first user of the pack of notes as to why there were notes whose serial number was out of sequence.
