Dave, out of curiosity, what do you think the first coin would grade less the cheek scratch.

Without that one scratch, it's 65 all day and maybe 66. Yes, there are other marks on the cheek, but notice that the fields are almost untouched. The reverse is almost pristine, easy 66 and possibly 67. Minus the one mark, I could see it in a 66 slab.

I like the middle coin the best, but then I like blast white original Morgans best. I think toning on the uncs like the last one is not very attractive.

I'm not fond of that uneven toning either, but I usually try not to "grade" as such by it. What bothers me with the 3rd coin is all the scars on her face. Looks like she got into a knife fight down the pub one night. MS66 translates to "Gem Uncirculated" I believe over here and that ain't no Gem.

Wow this is a old thread brought back to life. Okie-colin, if you look on the second page you will see how you fared with the grades given by PCGS

wow! no one has gotten this correct yet. Guess it goes to show how subjective grading can be, even by a TPG

I guess I am old school.
my morgans have just jumped 1 maybe 2 grades easy.
thanks for posting. I will
be sending in my top two morgans for a slab.
the only thing I will mention (other than I have learned
that the grading scale has changed over the yrs.)
is that if a morgan used to have just one or two
slight scratches or dings right in the most important
area of the obv. is that it would barely make ms63.
eye appeal is just one of the four grading criteria
but it's % does not override any of the other three
combined. this is not an insult to any of the coins posted
but just a learning experience for me. times change so do other things. actually it is now to my benefit. once again thank's
for taking me into the 21st century. Really, I mean that.
