This is one of the ways I feel I've learned something on this website. I've been collecting since the early 80's and never really knew the difference in a 1916 vs a 1917 until I saw this same info that Moe posted in an earlier thread. The other day I was looking through some no date SLQ's at my local coin shop and saw a T1, which I easily diagnosed as a 1917. It's amazing the depth of knowledge here...

Quote: Now advertising a 1917 as a 1916 is an obvious fraud. Or ignorance. Or wishful thinking.

The seller has been on ebay since 1998 and has seven thousand Feedbacks from coin sales. It's difficult for me to imagine such a seller not knowing the coin, but possible I guess.

Ignorance or not, ebay policy says you have to refund seller if item not as described. 1917 is not as described.

At a coin show last weekend a dealer had an Album of Standing Liberty quarters complete for sale. All were in a minimum of AU. I was afraid to even ask the price.

so sad. that one should have been reported and removed before sale. I have owned a few dateless 16s, and that one was definitely a 17. Glad my coin pics still serve some purpose for identification.

Quote: Upstate...are you the seller ? Of course not, why would you think that? I know I've been away for quite a while but certainly everybody knows I have some shred of honesty

no offense takin' I figured you were just busting my chops somehow, but I didn't look at the listing that close. good one
Point is, for all on this site, It (the 1916 no date SLQ) is not really a tough diagnostic. Certainly sellers of the coin should know and be suspect if misrepresenting IMO
