I really don't think you can hurt this poor Two Cent Piece any more by trying out various conservation techniques. Verdi Care would probably be the best thing for it, but it's never coming back to life, beyond loosing some of the surface contaminates or rust, the coin is too far pitted and corroded IMO. Could be a good pocket piece for a while, the normal wear might help to remove some of the built up hardened gunk.

An Acetone bath did not really help. Time to move onto other methods.

OK so Verdicare step one and utrasonic cleaner
there is an improvement on the verdigris but the whole coin has lightened in color.
Will continue spot treatment in the bad areas of corrosion then start working on the smaller spots..

Well, it is looking a little better.

It is really too bad about the pitting.

Waiting to see some more results.

Looking at it you MIGHT want to think about caring it around in your pocket for a while. Just a thought.

So several more hours with Verdi-care and a tooth pick and the corrosion around the two is gradually diminishing.
a small drop of verdi-care then leave for 20 mins then pick the loose stuff away with a tooth pick.
will continue until there is not more change then start on the next patch..

Clearly a project for a man of patience with a steady hand.

It's interesting to see the progress.

So the corrosion is slowly lifting but I am a little concerned that the coin is lightening too much its loosing its tone for sure. It will end up looking new which it not my goal. I Don't think its the tooth pick as the light area is outside of the area I was using the pick.
the is is the seventh application of Verdi-Care and pick process.. I think I am reaching the point where no more corrosion will be easily removed in this spot but I will try once more. This time leaving the coin to soak for an hour before trying to pick out the corrosion.
