Numismatic News prices August 2014 for 1851 $1: AU50 $270 MS60 $335 Those prices are for raw coins. So it is a fair deal. Take it.

I say take the deal. Lower gold content, but much higher numismatic value and much more interesting!

If the coin is worth more I would take it. Coins with numismatic value are generally better investments especially if gold takes a dip.

Take the deal......If you decide you don't like the coin, you can just re-sell it on ebay at a profit.

Sounds like the seller is offering a great deal, if you have interest in the coin it would be hard to pass that up.

Do not send a coin priority mail express since they will use the bullion/coin clause on it to say the max payout is $15 despite the section that states coins with numismatic value are covered. Send registered mail only. I am reading horror stories of people sending $2000 gold coins, have USPS lose it, and getting a $20 insurance payout.

Do you have a link to this clause? I'd like to read more.

USPS will give you the low payout to get you to go away, then you have to fight them and get the full payout... I've never heard of them getting out of paying out the full amount eventually.

I don't know much about that series but I like classic gold, so after hearing from you guys that the value is there I say keep it (if you like it).

Nice deal! Keep the classic gold. If gold plummets, you still have a valuable coin.

I would think the fact that you bid on a graded coin (bullion) shows you are interested in clooecting value and not stacking ounces. I'd take the older coin and buy my bullion ungraded

True, I never really understood the slabbed American Eagles. You can just go to a PM shop and buy some bullion close to melt.
