There's no telling. I've read the entire CRH thread for half dollars. Lots of folks have gotten skunked. And, lots of silver coins have been found as well.

If I were to hazard a guess, you'll encounter some NIFCs. You'll see some that have been marked with a sharpie. You'll see lots of 1971 halves and lots of bicentennials.

You might score a few 40%ers. You might get a Magician's coin. And you might score a counterstamp, or a half balboa coin from Panama.

The unpredictability of a box search is what makes it fun. You can't be a winner if you don't play the game. And if you get skunked, remember that Babe Ruth struck out 1,330 times........a number far in excess of the amount of home runs that he hit.

to add to those predictions, you will have 1 roll that is short by 1 half. (assuming statistics holds true)

I predict 10% will be 1976 from Philadelphia.

Interesting stuff, was there a huge mintage of halves in 1971 compared to all other years?

One thing to keep in mind is that $1000 tells you nothing about the potential. Some places will give up 1 or 2 in most boxes. Some places will have long skunk streaks followed by a monster. I've had 40+ box skunk streaks and I would still say my region is good, compared to most because I've had some nice monster boxes.

If I were you, I would probably get 1,500 1996's and a few medio balboa's.
The rest would be machine damaged NIFC.

If you can't tell, things have been bad in my neck of the woods lately!

Good luck!

So far I've gone through 5 boxes and one yeilded 11 90%ers and only one box was a true skunk. So to pull out silver in 4 out of the 5 is not too bad.

Funny but true! In my year of doing Halves I only had one true skunk, always find at least one 40%er. My best box to date was 11 Franklins in beautiful condition. Keep searching, it's a numbers game, the more you search the better odds you will have at finding something nice.
