How do they look? Any dates yet?

If they're that worn anyway, how badly would doing the vinegar process affect the numismatic value?

So far got a 1918, 2 1920, 1923, 2 1925, 2 1927.
The rest are showing a number or two so I'm gonna put them through this process again. 2 S mint marks and 2 D's uncovered also! 21 nickels to go

I am guessing the numbers fade over time and stop reflecting so well to read them? What if it was a partial date?
how in the world do you only cover the nickels with the concentrated acid, and leave them in for 4 days without it evaporating away?

Wow awesome job so far. Sounds like you've got some good finds with the D & S mints.

Shadz, as long as you keep a lid over the bowl you are putting the acid in coins in, it won't evaporate for at least 7-10 days (mine took 4 days here and all my coins were still covered)

I have a type-2 (line) dateless buff (the only dateless I have) that I found CHR. I tried the vinegar/peroxide technique that I got off another video where you put in some 3% peroxide and mostly vinegar to bypass the freezing process (as my freezer isn't strong enough or I'm impatient with my coins, maybe both ). I just put it in a small glass jar with a screw lid so we will see. 1913-P type 2 anyone? Fingers crossed

If you're using vinegar/hydrogen peroxide, make the solution 50/50 and don't leave the nickels in there more than 5-10 minutes or you will over expose them. Also, stand them almost upright in the solution, otherwise, the surfaces will come out with dark brown spots.

gill3814: It is 191?, but imo, the last number looks like 7. My brother says it looked like a 9. Still soaking as we speak, so we will see. g048406: ouch, I already put it in the solution a few hours ago, but used more vinegar than peroxide (not your 50/50 mixture) and your upright idea actually makes sense after I looked at the nickel. No dark brown spots, but the little dirt and black stuff shifted on the coin as it was treated EDIT: Done soaking. There is a faint but distinctive 1917 on the front. This is my first time soaking any coin in anything, so lesson learned and I will tilt the coin next time. @gill Nope, just one dateless, not two. 1917-P, but hey, a year I don't have (because I don't collect these).

1) The picture above was from my laptop webcam, which is dirty and I can't seen to find my glasses cleaner for it to make it undirty. 2) I did legit.ly TRY to take photos of the obverse and reverse, but the quality was trash 3) Changed my mind and decided to leave it in for more soaking. The weird black stuff on the coin actually came off and now the coin looks cleaner with pretty much not a speck of black crud on it except a bit on the reverse. 4) The date was there, but was only visible (kinda) if you had the light angle right enough. Resoaking and the date is a bit better but really hard to see. 5) Oh, and the solution is turning blue; I forgot it would do that.
