Thank you Topher - not overkill, but lots of reading again. HAHA!

Prethen - Only one Three Cent. Wish I had more but I don't. And can't buy anything until I get all these coins gone through.

Too many Ice chest/Jugs to go through.

What kind of nickels are you interested in? Shield, Liberty, Buffalo, Jefferson?

Actually all of them. I have about 8 Buffalo, 5 Liberty, 1 3cn, and whole lot of Jeffersons.

Mainly what I am doing is going through my coins a little at a time and inventory the ones I wanna keep.

I am thinking of selling the ones I only have a few of. And then just keep working on the Jeffersons.

Not for sure yet. My husband says I have to start getting rid of some of this. (BOO HOO for me!?!) Because I really do have alot of coins.

If you are working on Jeffersons, the keys to that series are the 1939-d and 1950-d. Both might be difficult to find in circulation.

Also look out for any Jefferson nickel from 1942-1945. I believe they contain about 1/3 silver.

So should I have the Liberty and Buffalo's graded on this site and them post them to sell.

I am not going to buy any for quite a while until I get all of these coins gone through.

Any suggestions/opinions?

We would be happy to grade your liberty or Buffalo nickels. It gives us all some practice.

More than likely the Buffalo and Liberty nickels may be only the common ones and if so, you would not make much on the sale of just a few. Not sure how badly you need the money but if you only make a few dollars it may well be worth just putting those aside for some other day. As to the Jefferson nickels, you should look into purchasing a Red Book on coins where you can get an idea of quantity minted and a very misleading value. Also, you may want to look into purchasing an Album such as Whitman or Dansco for Jefferson nickels. The point of that is you would find probably that you have a large amount of duplicates and many not worth keeping so you could just spend those or take to a bank. The main thing is to know what you have and what you need.

I looked for a long time for info on just nickels and finally I found a book that is nothing but buffalo and Jefferson nickels. I really have come to love the book and the info that it has in it.

"The Official Red Book, A Guide Book of Buffalo and Jefferson Nickels"

It's a Whitman book. It breaks each coin down by date and then by mint and tells all kinds of information about them.
