It is glue residue on the 26-S. With some effort it should clean up.

Strong obverse strike NumisRob. 1924/1925/1926 Philadelphias are usually the best of the series for appearance. Because they're common you can get superb coins for melt price.

Protip: NOW is a GREAT time to check your local bullion sources for sharp strikes from this common series. With silver falling through the floor, these seem like a bargain compared to a year or two ago. Here is a '22-D recently acquired. I see 'tons' of Phila. minted specimens around here, but not that many decent ones from the other two mints.

Just got it today at a local antique mall. I love the patina on this one.

I think most of that desirable darkening and outlining comes from sulfur Darth. It looks good on Peace dollars and Walkers, which have a lot of hair strands, skirt lines and eagle feathers to enhance.

This appears to be the second most worn coin in this entire thread... well into lowball territory. It also happens to be my only Peace dollar. The date, for the record, is 1923-S, and the mintmark is if anything even less visible in hand than on the photo (I've owned this coin for over a year before I even noticed that it has a mintmark).
