This policy has so many negatives. Should I buy the latest tech and in 6months when they become obsolete return them? Or worst bullion if the price were to drop in 6 months should I come up with some nonsense and return them?

An ebay 180 day return policy on bullion will have to be tweaked or ebay will eventually lose their big ticket bullion Sellers. No bullion Seller wants to be exposed to a 180 day return exposure on metal they no longer own or have control over. Making Sellers a "stop-loss bank of last resort" is insanity at its best. What a Seller is doing is essentially insuring the Buyer for six months against a down turn in the metals market. That's crazy!

They should tweak the policy for all money. The bullion argument can be made for money also. Example a hot release where prices cool to under issue in the 6 month time period. I'm not aware of any coin dealer currently accepting returns after 6 months!

so is ebay extending the timeline to open a dispute as well. Because after 45 days, ebay is no help to the buyer at all. just wondering, because if ebay stands still at the 45 days to open a case, then it is basically paypal and the credit cards, who will give you 6 months to dispute a charge, they will have to extend the window for precious metals, phone cards, concert tickets, etc..otherwise you could return them saying they no longer work, some serious tweaking will be required, no one in their right mind will accept a return on bullion or coins 6 months later,

Perhaps the answer is we all write that we will charge a 100% restocking fee for all coins and bullion, would this work..

I thought ebay and paypal already were taking enough from the sales of coins and anything else to do with this hobby.

They have taken the fun out of it for most people already.

Is there a coin collecting union? Lol

It will be interesting to see how the big dealers like talisman and modern coin mart deal with this. This just may curtail my selling on ebay of anything over $50. There's somethings this just doesn't work for. Time to read UK forums, they've had it since June. Two policies that will kill causal sellers paying for returns and 6 months to file a case.

In reality, I don't expect buyers to abuse this any more than the 45 day policy already allows. We've had overall good experiences in the years we've done ebay, with a small handful of difficult customers to deal with. We have certainly never lost money in any dispute.

Well, what I undertand is that the 6 months period is the same that all CC already apply long time ago.

They will not force disputes on bullion, because they will likely be charged with fraud/racketeering if they did. I have never had a problem, and I sell on ebay a lot. Package items well, require signature on delivery on items worth $100 or more, and just refund lost jtems , cost of doing business.

It's nice to hear from the dealers or larger sellers. Hear a dealer's experience helps to put things into perspective. I've done roughly 120 sales, with only 2 not receive claims. I did have a few issues with shipping this summer, they were my doing, and buyers were very understanding. It was during my extended absences. I did put my store on vacation, however, a few sales were made. The biggest problem was the way ebay opens cases, if a buyer doesn't select other. I earned 3 defects, when buyers were just asking about how it could take. They stated they weren't interested in opening a case, yet ebay opened one.

I'd like to hear from other sellers, regarding how often they get returns. Example would be 1/10. 1/35 this would paint a clearer picture. Reading the ebay forums is at times scary, when sellers post their bad experiences. So I think posters here will provide a more balance picture.
The main issue I have with eBays system, is the policy of giving a defect , for issuing a refund. It just feels like doing the right thing and making the customer happy , isn't valid anymore.

Keep up the posts, I enjoy reading the various views presented.

We've shipped about 275-300 items out this year and I've had one return -- the person disputed the condition of the item and we offered a full refund (though I suspect buyer's remorse, but that's just me). Every return we have to deal with is because of perceived defects like this. We find it is just easier to accept the return, issue a refund, then move in. If we feel the person is being dishonest, or if we continue to have issues with them, we do blacklist so they can no longer bid on our items again. Now mind, we do not sell much circulation numismatics on the bay and when we do, we try to whatever we can to make defect complaints a non-issue. This means not listing grades on coins unless they are PCGS/BCS/PMG graded or making clear we only give opinion on raw coins. It has worked pretty well for us doing this. It still scares me though.

That's why I, too, stay far away from the horror stories. It makes me want to cut off the entire Internet and move into a quiet cave.
