Why not the reverse of the 2014 Native American dollar. It is diverse in that it has a male and female on it and being the 2014 year is relevant to this year.

Technically speaking anyway...the only other coins that have actual native Americans on it are the Buffalo nickel and the already mentioned $5 gold coin.....the rest are lady liberty in a head dress

I would choose either the IHC or the Indian $10.

I have tried drawing coins before an it is VERY hard. I can't imagine what painting would be like. Be sure to post some pics when it's done!

I would choose Bela Lyon Pratt's design. Personally, it's my favorite from the list.

The Buffalo nickel would be the most recognizable..

I voted for $5 gold but was thinking that the reverse of the oregon trail commemorative would be a possible choice.

Indian cent for be my pick. Easily recognizable but easier to paint the head dress in the schools dress than a Buffalo nickel. My favorite one of the bunch is the $5 dollar gold piece but most of your community won't be able to tell where it came from.

OK so, I did the preliminary sketch. I don't have pics because it's in the art room, but I'll try to describe it. I kind of just improvised it, drawing stuff as I thought of it, with some vague ideas beforehand.

In the center is a grassy, flowery hill with an arm coming out of it clutching a pencil. To the left of that, I drew a clock dissolving into a river, mingling with the autumn leaves. This part was inspired by Dali's "Persistence of Memory" which I affectionately call "Melty Clocks".

On the right I put a brick wall, with all white bricks with a single colorful one. This was inspired by Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2". In the background I had more trees, more plants, the wind, an eagle, the sun, a fighter jet, and a hippopotamus.

So anyway, the poll results so far are in favor of the Buffalo nickel, which I'm strongly considering. Thanks all! 😉

I think this is the most beautiful design. Its different then all the others and the details seem very accurate. Plus its gold.

Is it just me, or does that American Indian on junjun's half have a disproportionately small head? I do think that $5 gold Indian is a beautiful and unique coin, now I want one too!

For the non numismatic viewer, the most important factor is the design of the mural, not that of the coin.
A Buffalo nickel is OK, if blue and gold is otherwise used in the mural itself.
A valuable coin in a mural could be a somewhat of a distracting liability.
or,
How about a colour PICTURE of a gold coin, of appropriate size?

IF you could find someone with a copy of the 2015 Red Book by Whitman Publishing, check out page 295 for the Oregon Trail Memorial.

Nope, not just you...

"I like the "heroic head". In comics, one way to make superheroes look stronger is to draw a head smaller, like 1/7 or 1/8 of the total height, rather than a more normal 1/6.
