I'm no good at grading toned coins, but I just wanted to say that it's a good looking coin.

Thank you tkbslc. I am no good at photographing them . . . . can't seem to get detail.

This one is fairly clean. Those Reed Marks in the hair . . . . I defy anyone to see them without a microscope. Actually they are too close together and too small to be Reed Marks, so I don't know what the heck they are.

There are two nearly parallel marks on the neck that can be seen without 10-X. I believe them to be recent, as they contrast with the toning and are the worst distraction. They hardly show in the pics.

The rub on the eagle? Not there. At all. A product of the camera. So I really don't know why I still do this . . . . other than I find it to be great fun. And maybe some day I will unlock the key to photographing these if I keep at it. There are some great threads out there, but I am still not there.

I do find that I more and more am a fan of these toned pieces. Not everyone thinks they are so great though . . . . woof.

I'm gonna say MS65. If the toning wasn't so mottled I think it could go 66. There are a couple fine scratches in the neck area that may keep it from that 66

ANACS Blue Holder MS65.

Guys, I am right there with you. I have it in my sweaty paws and can't decide if it is a 64 or a 65. If I turn it just right so that the two small scratches in the neck really jump, it is a 64. Those are the only distracting marks.

If I don't do that, don't turn it exactly right (wrong?) it is a no brainer 65.

I do not believe it would go 66.

Anyway, I got it for a pretty good deal in the ANACS holder, I believe I will see if PCGS will cross it. I bought the coin, not the holder, so if it does not cross I will not be heartbroken. I only want to cross it to get it into my registry.

Thanks for playing along!

I doubt those pics do the coin any justice. I think it's a solid 65.

Jesse, I do not disagree. But those photos cut both ways. Yes, the coin looks better aesthetically in hand, but also I have failed to capture detail (the marks) that might hold it back.
I gotta spend a few bux on better lights!
As always, if I crack it or send it for crossover, I will report back here how it turns out.

As promised.
I got my grades back from PCGS and this one did not cross.

I was curious what the marks on the neck would do to the grade, but obviously they didn't affect it much.

Lovely toned quarter!
