I'm doing the MS62/63 slabbed set. Finding a lot of Denver and San Francisco commons prices to be a lot higher than NumisMedia price guide.
Also, getting 1934-S at any MS grade will break the bank. So it might take few years... or even decades.

I think it's weird that the 1934-S is really cheap in low grade, while the 1928 is expensive in ANY grade. Yet once you hit higher grades, the 1934-S is much more expensive. Strange market forces, there.

I'm probably going to have to settle for an XF on the 1934-S and 1928 for my own collection.

The great thing about collecting is that you are the one to decide how and what to collect.

MS-61 is sort of an iffy grade. AU-58 may get you more bang for the buck.

Yup there are some nice sliders with eye appeal vs. mostly ugly 61's that are bag marked to death with poor luster & zero eye appeal.

I'm working on a nice circulated set for as low a price per coin as possible.

I completed the Peace set this past spring by purchasing a 'nice' raw 1928 at a local coin show.
Goal is to have all the coins in the album at 'high eye appeal' without significant circulation wear.
Still have a dozen or so to upgrade. Not interested in anything in plastic prison garb.
I am also working on a dark-toned set. These are more challenging to find, since the tarnished ones often have been cleaned or dipped.

I completed mine a couple of years ago. Circulated mostly but with a few nice ones mixed in. No consistent at all but at least it's finished.

I'm lacking the 1928 Philadelphia to complete my date/mm set.

I don't see the point of MS-61 at all. It basically stands for "technically uncirculated, but ugly".
I'd rather have an AU-58 (or even AU-55) coin any day.
Not that, at this point, I could really afford either... my only Peace dollar is an ungraded FR-2 (1923-S if you wonder, and yes, the mintmark is visible).

I too am lacking the 1928-P, but I just cashed out some holiday PET time at work for. . . . yep, a 1928 Peace dollar. Right now, I'm looking at one in an AU50 NGC slab. I'll crack it out for the Dansco. I also bought an ANACS AU50 1926-D to replace the "hairlined" specimen I bought as a newbie. I love Peace dollars that have "dirty" patina:

I'm excited to be close to finishing this set.

I just finished my set about a month ago. Most of them are circulated. Took me about a year and in the end rang up about $2100. I still have to finish my buffalo, Lincoln but cant seem to find it in me to spend 3k+ on the four coins I am missing :(

I am currenlty working on a PCGS set (mainly MS64-66 CAC stickered coins). Several years ago I picked up many of the commons in MS63-MS64 so I am slowly replacing those when I find strong strike higher grades.

Not really. The 28 is low mintage but didn't really circulate. The 34 S has a higher mintage but they were mostly released into circulation. So today the low mintage 28 is common in the higher grades and less so in the lower grades. So there isn't much price difference between grades. But the 34 S is very scarce in high grade and very common in lower grades so low grades are cheap and high grades very expensive.

For me it's a year and mint mark set. Grade can be anything from BU to circulated.. Still missing the toughies but getting close:

A very nice set srs77. I especially like the color of the 1923 Philly.
