Halves have been searched MUCH more than dimes have.

The only time you might come out ahead on halves is when you are standing in line at the bank and a little old lady ahead of you just deposits her late husbands rolls of coins "he had stashed away in the corner of the garage".
Providing the teller doesn't immediately squirrel them away you might get a shot at them and have some luck.
Just buying halves from the bank is usually an exercise in futility

I enjoy searching Dimes I find silver most of the time. However when returning them to the coin counter I am almost always shorted. Last week I was shorted about $2 and change. On halves rarely get shorted. I have only been skunked a couple of times on halves, only searched about 10 boxes though.

Ok, thanks for the input everyone. I think I'll try dimes first and see how it goes.

Never found a silver dime but only looked through less than $100 worth. I take all loose or spare halves from my bank and either spend them in stores or keep the silver. I've gotten $60 worth of silver that way in five months.

Searched many, many thousands of dollars in dimes...never once found silver. Searched about $7500 in halves, found three 40% silver. Neither was what I would call a "good investment of time" by any stretch. Then again, you may have better luck than I.

Try each, it depends on your location IMO. Some areas better for halves, others dimes.

Oober is right. It depends on your location, situation, and number of searchers in your region. That said, I'll give my experience. I'm sure I've searched over $100k in dimes and hundreds of thousands in halves. If you like the satisfaction of finding silver on every hunt, dimes are way more consistent. Although in my region, picking the right courier is a must(this is not typical). Halves are hit and miss but the silver per amount searched is at least twice as good.
For the record, if I would have began halves during a skunk streak, I would have never figured out that halves were so good. I would have quit before reaching a 10 box skunk streak. I've had several.

Alright, I guess I'll try both halves and dimes then. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
