As long as it stirs up discussion I'm fine with whatever.

I agree. Commentary adds substance to any thread.

Now with the Z-day of the Alphabetic Thread having ended, is there anything else people want to do?

Having read the feedback, maybe the idea brought by 'january1may' might be workable. Personaly I don't think there would be any coinless day, except perhaps at the start. There should be coins from any century around.

Maybe someone with a coin from the 7th century BC could start and set the rules. From the 5th century onwards I can contribute.
The only rule which should be included imo is that no coin posted in the last 30 days should be recycled.

Comments welcome.

Maybe we do something like that but only do centuries for the first 500 years (700-200) and then go down to every 50 years? And then crank it back up around 400 AD to every hundred? I think there will be plenty between 200 and 400 AD to do every 50, or even 25 years though.

Also the smackdowns were just ending when I got here, and those would be fun to see again.

I agree entirely (something like this is basically what I had in mind, though I might've split the dates differently).
We might ramp it up again when we get to the 15th and particularly 16th century, when there's again a lot of coins to have - but "typical audience of this forum" and "CCFers interested in 16th century coins" doesn't seem to intersect much, unfortunately.

Guess the Emperor was good fun and created a lot more topical conversation than the other threads, I would like to see that returned.

The question is how long one would want it to run. Nothing special about the period up to AD400, plenty Byzantine and other coinage after that. Just as a simple example, I have 26 different (reign titles) one cash coins between 960 and 1189, followed by 9 different Sultans of Delhi up to 1351.

Having consistent 50 or 100 year segments avoids confusion, 100 year periods would ensure it does not take too long.

why the poll if your going to do as you please anyway? Running number builders time after time is ok but why not just run guess the Emperor first before starting others? Guess the Emperor would benefit us all, including yourself.

Not going to start a series by myself (at least not for some time), just made a comment on what the others said in that regard.
If I would start one, it would rather be on local Greek coinage (which got more votes than other options).

Another very useful topic would be something like 'spot the fake'. Any thoughts on that one? I got burnt just yesterday, 3 Athena owls landed and all 3 are 'wrong'

Sorry to hear that, hope you can return them.

For a topic like that it needs to have fakes on hand though.
Maybe it would be better to have that as sticky, so that people could post their fakes (or those they are going to return) with some description.

Firstly apologies, I didn't look at the poll properly. I will post the owls on a normal thread so everyone can see them. I am not sure if I can return them, non responsive seller at the moment

Silly me, there is already a sticky for 'Fake Ancients'.
Even if you create another topic to discuss your experience with those coins, post them there as well.
