Quite the welcome post, Tomdog.

I'm not seeing a ton of wear on this coin, and a pretty good strike. Looks easy AU from here, and a heck of a find from pocket change.

I would say it's AU also and I would value it around $20. Good find for being in your pocket change.

Also to CCF!

This 09 VDB was struck with a nice planchet and a rather fresh set of dies.

The inside edges of the rims are very sharp on OBV and REV. If the outer edges of the rims were square, this would be a proof!

Nice!! AU58 BN.

I agree with the AU grade, what a great find out of pocket change. That coin hasn't been kicking around people's pockets for 105 years. Makes you wonder who's hoard it came out of.

Just bought an AU example for my nephew at a fall coin show. I paid $20 for it. They had it listed at $25

Congratulations on a lucky find - the 1909 VDB Lincoln Penny is one of the rarest and most sought after U.S. coins

....and of course

Wow, I appreciate all the feedback, I thought it may be a day or so before anyone posted. Like I said, I saw it was a 1909 when I first found it, so I kept it. I revived it as change from Exxon, lol. Thank you for the well informed responses.

This coin certainly came out of someone's collection. It is too nice. I wonder if there is a 1909-S VDB out there also?

Agreed coin is at least very fine and worth hanging onto and framing.
