Just checked a few tombac beaver 42's..
..and they all have a raided or partially raised edge at the rim..whether it be business or specimen strikes..
...so probably very common to see.

Here are pictures of my 1942 Tombac, it has a raised edge, and a piece that is peeling off, not sure but the metal under it looks red so it could be PMD on the rim at 10 O'Clock Reverse. Lovely die breaks all over the place, reverse die break by the left leaf, connection between the AD in Canada. Obverse die breaks on the legend and off the corner of the bust. I had to get it out of the 2x2 to photo. I got it with a group of other commems from WWII. Never really looked at it until now.

I found this 1943 Tombac as well. A large Obverse Die Break, raised edge.

Hello This is not a collar clash but this: Wire edge The thin, knife-like projection seen on some rims created when metal flows between the collar and the dies. http://www.pcgs.com/Lingo/W

Like I said earlier, these guessing game threads make my head hurt. "Not exactly easy to come by" "This second coin, is the exact opposite of the first coin and also not exactly easy to come by"
What EXACTLY are you asking or trying to point out here, bellmaker? I'm always looking to learn something new, but this kind of stuff to me is just a silly, frustrating waste of time. Ask a specific question or make a specific statement.

Quote: Hey lets just make this a "post your tombacs" thread Might as well. Hey, they only made about 25 million of them, and coinsandcanada only lists 33 varieties, so this won't take long. :) Bellmaker, what was your point again?

It is the rims.
The higher percentage of 43's have a mix of flat and stepped.

"Wire rims" are a very good sign of a superior strike and are often seen on specimen strikes. ..remember.. sought after and not damaged goods..as was suggested earlier.. A nice cameo showing on this 42 Good observation..bellmaker.. . .

Quote: This is not a collar clash but this: Wire edge... Perhaps. What makes me wonder about this explanation is I have seen/owned other wire edge coins, with a very sharp & high fin on the edge (2-3 mm). On these tombac coins the doubling on the rim is usually comparatively low & lumpy. I'm not sure what to make of it.
