__QUOTE ScottishMoney___________________________________________________________________________________________________ The 10¢ coins need to be the smallest denomination coins in both Canada and the US. The 1 and 5¢ coins are nothing but jar and trash material, yes people really do throw them away. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
You can even throw them at me as long as I get to keep them LOL.

ElleKitty I'm a penny picker also . lets not forget sales tax. I'm sure that local governments would love to round up to the next quarter dollar Jeff

Count my wife and I as penny pickers. You would be surprised at how much money you can pick up. Deb and I do something very different with our finds, though. Each year (after I have gone through them) they are counted, then we match what ever the amount is and donate the entire amount to a charity. Our count year goes thru the end of March, just happens to be when we started this. Anyway, just counted before posting this so I could share the total with you and it is $67.23. Not a huge amount, but every little bit helps.

Personally I would hate to see the elimination of the 1 and 5 cent coins. How boring would getting change back with the only minor denominations being the 10 and 25 cent pieces. I am surprised to hear coin collectors supporting this.

I do NOT support this at all. I think its ridiculous but think of that value of our collections if this did happen! Ive been hoarding new rolls of cents just in case It does happen.. heck, its only 50 cents a roll!

Another vote here for keeping the 1¢ & 5¢ coins. Between them they have both of Canada's most enduring national symbols, the beaver and the maple leaf. If they go you may as well take away hockey and Tim Horton's too.

I wish the US would do away with the Dollar bill and use only dollar coins... of course I wish we were back on the gold and silver standard also. Todd

Give it time! As long as the dollar bill is in circulation, it won't go that quick, they took ours away, so we didn't have much choice.

Toniblab, I'd like to see a pic of that 1925 1c! Personally, I think the small cent is a throwback which can be done away with. Finland got rid of their Penni, as did Switzerland with their 1 Rappen. The US and Canada should do the same for circulation--but keep minting them for collectors! That would be far more cost-effective. LOL...I wish we had "Tim Horton's" here in (California)...I like that place!

I could live with that.

I would hate to see the Canada cent go far more than the US cent. Ours hasn't wholly changed since 1909 andnonly partially in 1959...I think. Your country at least changes its currency around more to keep things interesting. One reason I collect world coins more so than US is the variety. I have gotten tired of the current US coins and older coins are rather expensive. I am glad we have series in the quarter and dollar coins and the nickel had a partial facelift after a small series. The cent and dime drastically need change. I have always enjoyed the Canada cent and nickel. They are pretty coins.
