I'm surprised I came so close!

ok, here's one I was going to post anyway. it's another nagas of narwar coin, this one is a 20 ratti or kakini. I already have a 10 ratti or half kakini, but wanted one of these for comparison.

Guess-The-Price

Nagas of Narwar
Ganapati Naga
4th Century AD
Mitchiner ACW 4742+
Obverse: Humped bull standing left. in dotted border
Reverse: In Brahmi:'Maharaja Sri Ganendra'.
9 mm
1.9g
Provenance: Ex Mctears lot, UK

i'll give everyone a couple days to guess.

here are some comparison pics with my other coin. the 1/2 kakini and the kakini are the same diameter..

Guess-The-Price

but the 1/2 kakini is only half as thick and weighs half as much (the other coin is 1 g).

The smaller one is nicer, where is the reverse to that one?

As for the price of the thick one, to settle on one number $8 plus potential oncosts.

I'd be curious to see if anyone comes up with an exact match for the "mystery piece." My first thought (which I have no doubt is wrong) was a really crude imitative of a Herakles/lion type AR diobol from Lucania, Heraclea, like these:

Absolutely love these coins. I would say $10 dollars for the OP.

Thanks for your post, it triggered me looking at Celtic coinage, before reading

Was already into it, but good idea nonetheless.
Here an image (taken from Wildwinds):

Guess-The-Price

How is that for a match?

The text to it is:

CCCBM S71 - Celtic, The Veneti. Imitation of Massalia. ca 3rd Century BC. AR Lightweight Drachm. Nymph head right / MASSA, 'beast'-lion standing right.

That coin alone made buying the lot worthwhile.

Nice job tracking it down, Medieval. Definitely the black sheep - uh, make that beast-lion - in that group of Romans.

Thanks, but without you pointing off-field it might have staid in my 'to be identified' stash for some time.
You can take a lot of credit for me identifying it that quickly.
Not used to Celtic coins having such clear rendering of animals - except for horses.

Excellent price, especially since it was fairly well attributed.
You were lucky that there was no other interested bidder there.
