Pre-1907 double eagles and eagles seem to sell much closer to spot in MS than do St. Gaudens double eagles and his $10 Indian heads.

That's easy, if it were me, I would buy a gold Libertad. The price difference at APMEX between a AGE and a Libertad is $20. They haven't released the final mintage of 2014 Libertads, but the 2013 was 2350, so the 2014 will probably be around that number. The 2013 American Gold Eagle was 743,500. Gold Librtad, interesting! The 2011 proof coin was the only one left too.1100 mintage in 2011 is crazy low, but will that translate into a market for them moving forward?

Now is only the 1oz coin a limited mintage, or is the 1/2 oz as well?

If you want a "modern" .999 bullion coin I would get an AGE or a Canadian Maple Leaf.

I like Philharmonics - just because I like them. If you're looking for maximum return, I'd say a Buffalo or Panda would be the way to go. |

APMEX has a Libertad Gold 1/4 oz MS70 PCGS for $785 Apparantly it's one of 6 coins graded MS70. Do I go for this rare beauty or stick with the 1oz coin of less rarity? Ugh!

Of coarse not, so why pay $785 for 1/4? When acquiring precious metals, you want as much as possible for as least as possible. Most importantly, buy from a reputable dealer and keep the invoice if you want to sell it again sometime. There are too many fakes around.
