I didn't know that Roman Tam was one of the principals behind Coinmart. I bought a few things from him on ebay back in the day. I've been hesitant to purchase any of Coinmart's current offerings because their photography does not provide much to go on, so I'm glad to hear the positive remarks here. If they could get their photography down I would probably do quite a bit of business with them, but as it is it is expensive to have to return coins to Canada from the United States.

I've purchased from Coin Mart a few times. I consider these purchases to be raw coins in an ICCS style holder due to the fact that they are after all graded by the owner/seller. They are accurate with their variety attribution and seem fairly accurate with their grading. I've only dealt with Dave. He's a stand up guy and will go out of his way to make sure you're happy with your purchase. I agree with previous posters that their photos do leave a bit to be desired as I do like to see bigger, good quality images of both sides of a coin I intend to purchase (no matter what the value). I do recommend Coin Mart and wouldn't think twice about purchasing from them in the future.

I've been dealing with Coinmart for over 5 years and never had any issues with their grading. I've dealt with Joseph and Dave and have always been happy with their service. I think they mostly grade their cheaper coins and package them like ICCS does. I've purchased some lower end Coinmart graded ones and would say that they are quite accurate. I mostly buy ICCS graded coins from them as they seem to have the best selection on ebay. I would recommend them.

Do Coin Mart sell on ebay using two accounts, b.c.coinmart and coinmart62? I'm sure I've seen these Coin Mart holders from both sellers, just not sure why they would have two separate accounts going.

From what I have been told Dave is running the Bccoinmart site and he is dealing with the high end coins as well as world coins and tokens and Joseph runs the original site selling mainly Canadian coins and mint product. I've dealt with both accounts and haven't had any issues.

After reading this whole posting, I still have one question. I recently bought a CoinMart item that came in a sealed plastic flip. It's a 1952 Canadian 'high relief' quarter, and I mainly bought it not because it was graded (EF) but that it was identified as a 'HR' quarter; which I couldn't be able to tell the difference if I had both types in my hand at the same time. The question I have is: Does it serve me ANY purpose to keep the coin in the CoinMart flip? I would like to put it in my Whitman folder with the rest of my quarter set, but would doing so 'spoil' the coin's authenticity or value in any way? I have several coins in PCGS and NGC slabs, and a couple ICCS flips, which I also wish were not separated from the rest of their 'families', but I know I am better off leaving them 'locked up' right now. Should I open the CoinMart flip?

Quote: Should I open the CoinMart flip? Absolutely. It is just packaging. Enjoy your coin in your collection. Do you keep your newly bought tools in the Canadian Tire shopping bag?(as an analogy)...

I understand exactly the view that you express. I eventually decided to break out anything under a certain value, I set anything under $100 as my limit just because it was worth it to me in terms of satisfaction of display and convenience.

I've never bought from them because their photo's are crappy. I didn't know the principals involved until reading this thread and I may very well have been missing out. However to me I still like to be able to see what I'm buying.
Cheers, Bill

I've seen a few coins on sale on ebay. As many have said, I'm not impressed with their pictures. Other than grading accuracy and pictures my concern is the ability to resell the coin as "graded" Vs "Raw". Is CMG a recognized grading company? If not then I believe that all of their listings violate ebay policy. The rules seem to be more relaxed at ebay Canada than at ebay US. I get that ebay isn't the only place to buy/sell coins and I would certainly agree that ebay shouldn't be the authority to decide what is a "graded" coin VS a "raw" coin but they are nevertheless a major player. In all fairness, if CMG is allowed to list MS65 coins then I should be able to sell my own MCGS (My Coin Grading Service) MS65 coin as well. In fact I would probably setup a web page, take better pictures and provide accurate on-line population report. Something ICCS can't even do.

True, the pictures are not great. But I think for the most part the coins will live up to the advertised grade. What I think they are offering though is a product for a distinct buyer.....someone who wants a value priced coin that is a true MS64 or maybe MS65 on a common date. Getting this from a TPG can be expensive because of the holder cost. So if what you want is a nice grade coin at a reasonable price that you are going to crack out and put in an album anyway, this is probably a very good option.

Their grading is pretty accurate and DH knows his stuff. Their prices tend to be on the high side but they're open to negotiation.....my experience has been mostly pretty good. Having said that, I don't think a sealed Coinmart envelope carries all that much cache.
