Some people could do it for that, others think its cool and a conversation starter.
Agreed. Some may carry them for luck or comfort. I used to carry an Eisenhower dollar (surprise, surprise) for comfort when I was in school. Pull it out, instant stress relief.

The-Continuing-Saga-Of-My-Pocket-Piece-Eagle

My apologies for not keeping up to date on my pocket piece. I didn't carry it for some time but came across it a week or so ago and started carrying it again.

As you can see, wear is pretty heavy on the vertical of Liberty, particularly along the leg. Surprisingly, many of the hairlines seen in the first month's photo are not as visible anymore. The eagle on the reverse is honestly the hardiest part of the coin, with minimal scratches and wear on it. The shield and ribbon seem to be marked, but I expect the eagle will remain quite proof-like for some time. Wear is most evident on the coin when I carry it during hard work.

This pocket piece may be taking a journey this weekend as I take my Advance Scuba Diver's course. I plan on tossing it in my BCD and bringing some 100 feet underwater.

Cool. Is that a little edge knock at approximately 9 o'clock in the first photo?

If you're referring to the two little "chips" on the rim, yeah, those have always been there.

However, in roughly the same area, you'll notice a bulge at the top of the L on the one month out and most recent pictures. The coin rim was dropped on concrete a couple weeks after buying it and now has flattened rim damage and a bulge like appearance.

Here are updated image of my pocket piece 1992-S proof silver Eagle (figured it was fitting for this to be my 200th post on this forum):

Any indication it is a proof besides the mintmark is pretty much gone. The breastplate armor is merging with the gown and the shield on the reverse is starting to wear away. I can't wait to see what this looks like in 10 years time.

I imagine it will look a like a well-worn Walking Liberty half dollar! Provided I don't lose it by then...

Like the way that 2014 is wearing down Jack. I've all but retired the 2013 I was carrying around. Just WAY too many scratches and dings, since I carry my keys and often some other small change in that pocket too. I've also been toting an 1883-O Morgan since late April, and it seems much more resistant to the dings.

Good to see what difference the 10% copper makes.

Cool...I used to carry a Morgan dollar as a pocket piece but got tired of the weight. Now it's my "lucky" companion coin when playing games of chance....
