NGC, is a good place to start, but for ancient coins I think David Sear is more qualified.

NGC doesn't authenticate ancients. They don't slabs cast coins, Indian coins, Chinese coins or Persian coins.

James,

I'd recommend beginning with an email inquiry here (if link works):
http://www.allexperts.com/user.cgi?...7&catID=2297

That is the inquiry form from lakdivacoins, where one of the links I sent you earlier, with a similar plaque, was posted. That site specializes in coins of Ceylon throughout history. Your plaque, if genuine, is from Ceylon.

You shouldn't have wiped off the patina. You have taken away some of its value.

Wiped with a silver cloth ? I think you mean you polished it ?

If so you have 'schmucked' it up good ! DO NOT CLEAN also means DO NOT POLISH !

Almost every dealer in coins that I know has had the "pleasure" of a widow bringing in her late husbands coins for disposal. Often the person has whipped out the silver polish to make those 'dirty' old coins look pretty ....... to her that is !

Mistakes are common ! Learn from them !
