And one more reason to go to coin shows. At a coin show today a dealer had some of those massive new Red Books. I told him at another show they were $40 so he gave it to me for $39. Just had to have it for my Red Book collection. Now if your planning on getting one, here is some of the statistics: 10" High x 7" Wide and 2 1/2" deep. And yes very heavy. Cover states 1st Edition so I guess that means more coming in the future. Last page says page 1503 so I guess the adds that say 1504 include the last page. One nice thing is the top of all pages are color coded so you can find each type of coin by that. It is impressive but I suspect it will sit in my bookcase looking new for a long time.

I am currently vacationing in the U.S and happened to go by a Barnes & Noble Bookstore. They have the Deluxe Edition available for $49,95 + tax. Was very tempted to get it, but I thought I would ask if it can be had elsewhere for less. Since I am only here in the U.S for a short time, it is probably advisable to just buy of the shelf, but I thought I would ask

You can order it for cheaper ($32.56 at Amazon), but with shipping and time you should probably go ahead at buy it at the store.

My thoughts as well. Thank you very much, Jim. Already looking forward to leafing through the book, and looking at those nice pictures of large cent seated by the pool.

I just started to compare prices between the normal Red Book and this Mega one. Lots of differences in prices. For just a normal person the normal Red Book should be sufficient. I've only opened my mega one once so far and now just on a shelf.

I just bought this Mega Red Book. There's a lot to read. Much more than I expected. I don't put much stock in Red Book (mega or regular) prices except in a general sense and in a comparative sense. In other words, if coin A is listed at $20 and coin B is listed at $30, I figger coin B is probably worth more, maybe one-and-a-half times more or so, than coin A. But I don't expect the "value" of either coin really to be $20 or $30.

Oh my goodness! I just received my copy of the NEW Deluxe, 1st Edition, Red Book - it is HUGE. I got it on Amazon marked down to $25 due to a minor bend in the back cover. The format is 7 inches wide and 10 inches in height, so there's a ton of information on each page. Also, it's 2 1/2 inches thick, and weighs 6 1/2 pounds! This is a library reference book! The pictures of coins are vastly improved in size, quality and quantity, versus the standard Red Book. Where it differs greatly from standard copies is the depth and quantity of articles within. This first edition includes major emphasis on 1/2 cents and cents. It's so big it's almost overwhelming. It's going to take some time to read through it. I was a little dubious about spending $29 (including shipping charges) for a Red Book. I live within walking distance of our local library. But it's a small library and doesn't have many books on numismatics, so I took the plunge. I am VERY IMPRESSED. Jack

Yeah it's quite an impressive tome. I haven't used mine much just yet though I've had it for a few months. I was hesitant as well to spend that much money on a Red Book, however it makes me smile every time I open it up.

I bought this book when it first came out. I have found myself reading it more and more.
I think the biggest reason I recently bought a Dansco Large cent album, was because of this book.

GR58 - Since when do we need a "reason" to buy a new Dansco album? "It's not my fault honey, the big RedBook made me do it" . Jack

I find myself just fascinated by this new Red Book. I can't seem to put it down! I really like the grading pictures in the beginning of each type of coin. If I had a complaint it would have been better if it were spiral bound, but I'm not sure it would have held up at its current weight. And yes it is a monster as to weight, but I like the heavyweight paper they have used and the high quality photography. I can't imagine what a hard cover book would weigh, but I know you could probably use this book as a boat anchor LOL!

I guess for me it does not take much to buy another Dansco. ------------------------------------------------- I have been thinking that this RedBook might highlight different coin series each year .. If that is the case, I might be buying more of these Deluxe Redbooks in the years to come.
