wow, that's a nice 50D! However, with that story, I want it buried with me/my brother.

We already decided that we'd split the collection for now and leave it to the kids once we are gone. They are growing up understanding that these things have value, sentimental value as well. I'm sure that a number of coins we collected were merely stockpiled just because of their age. The first 1950D probably seemed 'nice' because it was in great condition for a 27ish year old coin. But since we were primarily LWC hoarders anything in the 50s seemed new and inappropriately applied to nickels as well. Now that the second one has been found, it will get placed into his album (after it lives in my 2015 Project folder a little while).

I appreciate the comments and dropping by to share in a small CRH success!

Thanks folks!

Jbuck - starting a theory at the moment. Given the condition of both coins of mine, they were likely from cashed in collections. This particular coin is AU and aside some coin roller marks on the reverse, maintains an even gold toning throughout. Some small spotting suggests to me that it was in storage of some kind. I also found a 1941 in similar condition in the same box. I'll post pic's of that when I tally up the stats for that box later today

That said, I'm happy to have both!

I noticed in your tag line that you have 154/175 coins in the set, I've found the exact same number only I don't have the 50-D.

Congrats on the find.

Thanks folks!

Yes: keep the faith. I'm still holding out that I'll find my 1939D one of these days to complete my main album. In the meantime, I was 6 away on the second album (now down to 5). It gets tougher when you are down to the 11 semi/key Jeffersons, but it is doable. Best of luck to you folks on your hunts!

Could be that or maybe from a very old coin jar. Either way, I think they had been set aside for a very long time.

Hey Guys, quick question. What is say a 1950-D in the condition, or some of the other key dates worth in good circulated condition? Going to undertak nickels here this year.

Check ebay for the answer to your question and reduce the winning bid by the ~15% in fees.

Thank you David. I chuckled to myself thinking about your second 50D; that moment of anticipation!
