Profit is not my motive. I keep the copper to protect them from being melted.

At one point someone made the same argument about silver coins. Do I expect an immediate return on my investment? No. If anything, I know I can sell shotgun rolls of them later at one date, cause apparently people buy anything on ebay. I currently have 90lbs, nothing substantial, but after I go through a roll, I just throw them into a jar, and run the Ryedale 1-2 times a month.

I kept all of the pre 1982 until I had reached enough to fill two 55 gallon drums. Then I decided that that was enough. I now just keep the AU and above copper cents.

Wow, what did that weigh? Did you unload at face value, or find someone to pay close to spot?

I have no idea of the weight and I still have them all. I figured if a strong wind came through they would anchor the house down.

ndgoflo, you are crazy. But crazy in a good way for coin people. It's threads like this that I like to show my wife, and leave the subtext unspoken (at least my coins aren't as bad as this guys!).

@kritler,you are thinking Copper will go from a Base Metal to a PM. How?
If you can not explain how copper is going to become a PM I understand I can not either.

No, I do not think copper will ever be a precious metal. I was just using silver as an example as at one point they were readily available in circulation, and no one thought the need to horde them. I do not expect copper to ever have the return that silver would, simply do to supply and demand. The industrial demand for almost all metals will more than likely drop as I believe technology will fill that void( http://www.nanocomptech.com/what-ar...-nanotubes). I do think they will yield more than face though through selling rolls, or if copper appreciates in another construction boom. Either way, at the moment, I don't mind having minimal capital tied up in them.

Only if I come across a solid CWR with copper or a machine roll with the majority (at least 75%) being copper due to convenience. Accumulating all these can be heavy and not worth space/effort except IMO.

I've been having second thoughts as I sit about $1500.00 in rolled/boxed copper, however, in the last few months I gotten interested in and pursuing Lincoln RPM's. The boxes I have searched recently have first been separated by mint marked and not, then sorted by date so when I get ready to look for varieties I can pull all my 61d's at one time, etc. so, if decent searchable boxes get more scarce, I can fall back on my stash. Three of the last four boxes I have gotten from banks have been 2015's.

Silver is so cheap right now. I took my two 5 gal water jugs full into the bank and bought silver! Silver is less weight and it will climb faster than copper ever will#128516;

Haha! It took multiple trips. They had a coin counting machine. Free for customers.
