I've been collecting since '68 or '69. I was around 8 or 9 years old.

I started in 1999 saving State Quarters from circulation for my newborn son. I bought him one of those maps that are so easy to get the quarters in (sarcasm). He turns 8 tomorrow. I still add quarters to the map as they come out. Sometimes I wish that was all I was spending on coins! I have no self control. I will be turning 31 on Thursday.

I started in the early 80s when I was about 7 or 8 and my father also collected so that helped me get a start. He took me to a few shops and shows now and then. When I was a teenager, I became a bit disinterested but held on to my coins. As an adult, I was not really actively collecting but I still passively searched. Every so often, I would find a wheat ear, silver dime, etc and put it aside. About five years ago, I lost about 3/4 of my childhood collection to a theft during a move. In a way, it was a good thing because it sparked my interest again. The past five years I have been seriously collecting and, more importantly, absorbing knowledge.

Started around 40 years ago, went dormant for a long time, then it kicked back in about 8 years ago. (I sure have enjoyed the fairly arbitrary purchasing decisions of 6-8 years ago at full retail price now appearing to be shrewd investments!)

I started in the early 50's, Lincoln cents, nickels, dimes, took a break of 50 years or so and got back into it early this year. I joined a coin club and between them and this forum, I'm enjoying soaking up some of the knowledge from the members.

just carl.....what a coincidence, like you I'm only 39, and I do remember Jack Benny!

I collected from age 10 to about age 12, then my collection was stolen. Now I (think) I've been collecting again for about a year and a half.. give or take.

Starting in my 20's but checked 2 years as that's when I began to take it seriously. I'm going slowly - there's a lot to learn. 57 years old 2 years ago.
