Not if nobody does anything. And I don't really care if it goes to court. We don't want to shut ebay down, we just want them to do what they've successfully done in the past. I'm hoping a shot across their bows will be enough. |

As far as I can tell, every one of their 15 items is counterfeit. I see no link on the seller page to report them. I've spent 10 minutes digging around and the only options I find are for reporting individual items. Is there a sticky on this forum for how to report someone as a seller of counterfeits? To me there is clearly a pattern of "hear no evil, see no evil" on ebay that deliberately makes it difficult to go after these people. The original coin above was re-listed, and I reported it 6 hours ago. It's still active. If the law quoted above has any teeth, just this one example should be enough for prosecution. |

Theoretically, a single auction report should do for the whole account. At least, it did when CCW was in operation. They nuked accounts like that. Now? Caveat emptor.

I think this is the same seller (the auction images look to be identical) who I recently also discovered to have done this, and ebay did shut that down. Colligo ergo sum

These auctions appear to have now been removed by ebay. But my "cockroaches under the sink" analogy still applies. I expect they'll reappear soon enough. Colligo ergo sum

Not sure what you're seeing, but the relisted/similar item I mentioned earlier ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/18168752285...K:MEBIDX:IT) sold for $7.76 with 11 bids, and the seller has 16 more of these counterfeits for sale today. They all have very short durations, just like yesterday's listings, ending today at 6:30pm. 5 currently have bids. As far as I can tell, ebay did absolutely nothing about the item I reported yesterday or the seller. |

Yes, you're right, I initially did my search wrong this morning, and just saw the new short duration listings. So he's still in business.

I reported every listing with this additional comment. "Every one of this seller's listings is counterfeit. ebay violates federal law by not removing." I bet 10 hours from now as these listings approach end of auction that they're all still there. What makes me laugh is that every listing shows obverse and reverse side by side in a single photo. Which coin am I getting? The one on the left or the one on the right? |

The HPA, enforced by FTC, is all we need. They have the juice to completely shut ebay down if they get mad enough. |

Every one of today's 16 counterfeits sold. I reported each one to ebay roughly 10 hours before the auctions ended, and obviously nothing was done. The 16 counterfeits sold for a total of $130.01. Number of bidders ranged from 1 to 17; hammer ranged from $.99 to $20.50. The average price for these 16 counterfeits was $8.13. Considering that you can buy most of these for less than $2 (free shipping) on a notorious website, the seller made about US$100 in one day, _from China_ (less mail expenses, presuming they actually get mailed). Multiply this one seller by how many examples on ebay each and every day? This doesn't end until either the US govt decides to prosecute, or some group of buyers gets together and files a class action lawsuit. It's patently obvious that the ebay reporting mechanism is a sham disguised as "feel good". Is this worth my time? No, but this is wrong, and it needs to stop. |
