to the CCF. Concur with the prior evaluations ... this is not a genuine US mint issued coin. However it came to be ... it is a token and worth only the value of whatever metallic composition it was struck with. David

That exposed breast would have driven them wild if it were a real coin. As it was the exposed breast on the real one caused the mint to cover it up. If that coin were real it would be the most amazing thing I have seen in a while. The detail is so perfect it is sort of nice anyway. What prudes they were in that day. End of the Victorian Era died hard.

I concur with everyone here....It's not real.
However, one question answered just left us with more questions!
1. Who made it? 2. What is it's dimensions? 3. What alloy/composition is it made from?
Etc.,etc., etc.

A coaster was my first thought as well, I've seen them for all the major coin rarities.

Quote: . As it was the exposed breast on the real one caused the mint to cover it up It wasn't the mint that did the covering, that was done by the designer and AGAINST the instructions from the mint. Covering the breast was not the result of prudery, it was most likely a result of the approaching war. The type one design shows Liberty taking the first steps in preparation for war (uncovering her shield), but going into battle bare chested would be a little foolish, so McNeil gave her a protective coat of chain mail. As far as I know no documentation has ever appeared, either from officials or the public, that objected to the bare breast. In the documents between the mint and the designer many changes are discussed but not covering the breast.

There are a few on the bay that are 3 inches and are pretty low priced. John1

I've used this image as a guide in my quest for the elusive 1916.....still looking. Not a lot of detail in the image, but it shows some things to look for to determine authenticity.

Great to all you for taking time help. This enormous coin was gifted to my husband in Italy 35 years ago and has in a drawer ever since. Much appreciated to everyone on this site. Now I tell my family it is not real, but really pretty and as replicas haven't much value it will remain in the drawer. KayC
