Quote: Well they said that their experts say US mint clad coins are fake.. Should have told him to gather up all the dimes and quarters that he and all his coworkers have and you'll be happy to take all those fake US Mint clad coins off their hands.

That's absolutely crazy! Somebody at ebay needs to be retrained! Did you happen to point at the thousands of listings of slabbed coins on ebay?

I don't think we have the whole story.
Tell us EXACTLY what was removed. Better yet, post a picture.

Something sounds very wrong here. I see slabbed clad coins for sale all the time on ebay. I have bought and sold several myself.

Yes, obviously the person had NO idea what they were even talking about.... Yes, I did point out all the coins on there. Doesn't really matter, my point was just to alert you all because, after telling them about all the coins that were clad that were listed, they said "well we remove those, and will continue to remove them". So not sure what they were talking about LOL

I cannot imagine ebay pulling a listing for a legitimate U.S. circulation issue and saying that about clad coinage not being allowed to be sold? Seems like something is missing?

As I said, the one I called about was a clad bar with a bronze core and a clad layer of gold around it. HOWEVER the point in this post, is that ebay specifically stated that Clad US coins are not allowed.

Honestly, that sounds like a misunderstanding- obviously ebay is not pulling American circulation issues because they are clad... I totally believe ebay customer service did not enunciate their reasons for pulling something else properly, but they obviously are not pulling listings of clad American coinage

Yes, obviously it was jut a misunderstanding, but be careful of how you list things in the future.... Quote: I wish we could see the original listing you had.. So do I !

With that said, and I hope you take this constructively rather than as an attack, clad bars are very greasy from a moral standpoint. The kind of thing someone buys and resells as genuine. Same reason why we disparage sellers who sell fake coins with complete disclosure.

Quote: Yeah, and the people slamming you for this are demonstrating comprehension fail. More than likely, whomever was contacted from ebay had little knowledge in the terminology they were using. Think about this from the perspective of a non-numismatist- The differentiation between a clad bar and a clad coin can certainly seem arbitrary to a person with little to no knowledge of what they are talking about- Both are hunks of metal coated with another metal to someone with no expertise. When challenged by an upset seller, who obviously knows the correct terminology, I can very easily see a situation where an ebay rep states that clad coinage is not supposed to be listed on ebay. That does not mean ebay is pulling clad coinage from ebay, it means that two parties had a misunderstanding on terminology during a debate regarding an altogether different item, a 'replica' gold bar

I have both bought and sold over the years on ebay, mostly my sales have been philatelic items. I have become aware that from time to time, the drones at ebay get out of control. It's as if they are trying to impress their superiors with how vigilant they are. A friend of mine sells military collectibles and he has had issues crop up when he tries to list anything Third Reich related. He had a listing for a postcard with a commemorative cancel featuring a swastika that got pulled because it 'promoted hate.' He argued for days with some 20 year old nerd who wouldn't budge. I just sold a half dozen similar items last week and there was no problem. I think the OP here just had the misfortune to be dealing with one of the idiots they employ. JMO.
