Yes there is an impression of something on the base of the bust. Below the queen is the word "Lombardo", on the reverse is "an art dies" at the bottom.

A few of these things were made to raise funds for the construction of the Big Nickel attraction in Sudbury. These tokens were advertised pretty widely and ended up being sent around the world. There are also Sudbury-themed medallions showing notable buildings and the town's coat of arms. All of these were fundraisers.

Here are some other oversized "replicas" I added to Numista:

There were so many different issues of the Sudbury medals to help finance the building of the sculptures. The big penny has four different issues: Bronze, Annodized aluminum, aluminum, and copper. Each is 38mm. There are varieties too, the two major ones being type 1, no mintmarks and type 2, mintmarks on the obverse and reverse. Yours appears to be type 2.

That's an attractive big nickel medal. Is it 38mm? There were a lot of different issues (8) with varieties.

Yes it is 38mm and because I had never seen one before I didn't know what condition they came in. The coin is near flawless so my dad must have put it in the 2x2 right away. I will have to ask him when and where he got it. So does the heavy cameo mean an early strike with fresh die?

Dad says he belonged to a coin club in the 60s and the penny and nickel were given free to members.
