No, don't work it. I'd rather never be sure than see you potentially hurt an interesting coin.

Thanks SsuperDdave, I'll look at this one every once in a while and let you guys know if I spot anything that will help such as the line continuing on the face. So far I see it continuing on devices to a degree, after a certain height it doesn't seem to travel further up. Such as the line that goes up onto the chin/throat area.

A closer photo of the crack would help. Ken

It is a Retained Cud, you can see how the field is displaced below the 9 in the date. The difference between this and a die crack going from rim to rim is the displaced field that's what makes it a Retained Cud, Retained Cuds must have displacement in the field otherwise it's just a die crack

Can a die crack be a shelf as I've explained though? ___/ŻŻŻ versus _____/\_____
I'll try to take some better pictures soon

I see a die crack, but so far the die isn't showing a movement of the die in that area.

I've found another one! : ) This completely eliminates the lamination theory. This one doesn't have the cool mustache though

I'm still questioning why it appears as a shelf and isn't connected over the face. All the other die cracks I've seen are a raised bump

I think the die didn't crack that deeply, so didn't go over the face. I wonder why it's not raised.
