Don't forget eliminating the $2 note and replacing them with $2 coins and possible 20-cent coins.
The former in due time. The second is unnecessary, as what I am doing here is like shifting the decimal point. There is no Two Cent coin that needs replacing with a Twenty Cent coin.

When I was in Vegas a few months ago there was several casino's that used half-dollars as basically .50 cent denomination chips on low-stakes tables. I would assume its easier to use those because they last longer and cost less than a regular chip.

Yes, jbuck, but a 2-cent coin would have been just as nice as a 20 cent coin could be now. I hate carrying four or more one cent coins. I would love a circulating 2-cent coin as long as we keep the one cent coins in circulation.

So why not just make all those vending machines to take a credit card. Then no problem of making change.

Maybe because some people absolutely HATE credit cards beyond words. I may be having someone using my name for credit card fraud, and it is stopping me from purchasing a home. Can't do that crap to someone with a $2 bill or a half dollar coin. This is why I say, SCRAP ALL CREDIT/DEBIT/CHECKS AND BRING BACK THE $500, $1,000, $5,000 and $10,000 BILLS AND ADD A $200 AND $2,000 BILL!. I am fed up with credit, debit and checks ruining my life, and have a lot of not nice words I would use against them if I could!

A lot of them do.

I love the idea of circulating halves, but the fact is that they don't make half dollars for circulation anymore. I doubt that a bunch of Walmart customers using half dollars to buy soda would move Congress to change that.

@jpsned,

I have already read, and been told that there was a 10 year or so supply of circulation quality halves, and that, when they run out of that supply of circulaion supply halves, they will mint more halves for circulation. I just wish they would run out of the currency circulation quality halves so that the U.S. Mint will mint new halves for circulation purposes. Hey everyone! Lets start hoarding halves to make that happen!

That 10 years or so supply of circulation quality halves adds up to almost a dozen coins.

Outside of a few casinos using them in place of chips and the odd person or two that insist on using them people just don't want them. I see more Ikes and SBA's than I do halves in circulation, that should say something.

Or we could follow the good ol' neighborhood Carl Marx and get rid of money altogether.

We definitely have plenty of half dollars for circulation if they ever started circulating again. Just a few minutes in the monster JFK roll hunting thread will convince you of this.

New halves may not be minted for circulation, but they're showing up anyway. I believe this is because the Mint dumps any unsold ones made for sets at the end of the year, although if someone knows better, I'll accept correction. Anyhow, I get recent-date Kennedys from my local bank pretty regularly.
