Here's the good news... and this coming from a guy who's in this business.

We've been in a bear market for commodities (inc. PMs) now for four years; name it... oil, nat gas, gold, coco.... So all these peace and Morgan dollars in lower grades we're buying here for under 20 bux and better yet; nice MS 62s and better graded/slabbed coins for a whopping $35 dollars will make you look like a financial genius by the end of 2017.
I'll not offer reasons for that statement as they are actually irrelevant; Elliot Wave Theory has the large cycle in PMs (precious metals) way the heck higher by 2017ish. You will ostensibly have purchased your collectible low grade $1s for LESS THAN MELT by then, including grading! I have the suspicion that we will look back on the summer of 15 w/fond remembrances.

Are you saying that while its worth above melt because its a Peace dollar now, it will be worth only silver later because of a massive price increase?

rynegold's 2017 prognostication sounds good.

"Are you saying that while its worth above melt because its a Peace dollar now, it will be worth only silver later because of a massive price increase?"

A rising tide lifts all boats. If your buying, here at 16 dollar +- silver, good solid coins for under $35 dollars (better coins than that of the OP's coin but those are good too if bought for say 12 to 15 bux) then at $50 Ag, you will be looking at a coin worth $38.75 melt How can you go wrong? Newcomers to the coin fancy, and high prices will bring them on, will be paying $55+ and up, for coins you paid $35ish for. Depends on the market both in Ag and collectible coins. Clean 81s or 04os will be automatic winners. You can't ignore higher Ag prices in the equation concerning prices for common coins; especially dollars....higher silver prices are coming. Buy now; not later.

edit: remember, grading fees, like speeding tickets, never go down... just up.

it is really amazing that coins with all their age. worksmanship and beauty sell for so little above the value of the metal they contain. but it happens and it's true that if and when silver prices go up you will still have won out in the long run.

I have never melted a coin other than out of curiousity when I was a younger prospector learning to melt and assay (i used a couple 1964 quarters). I think if you are able to buy stuff now you are in a good position for the future. I wish things were actually affordable when I started, I would have built a better collection earlier.
