I'm basing my thoughts here on the front page article in the June 16th Numismatic News regarding the Truman Coin and Chronicles Set that they are set to take orders on June 30th. It's to be a reverse proof issue, with a total mintage of 17,000, and a limit of 5 sets per household. Cost of the sets are $57.95 each. The article points out that the 2014 American $1 Coin and Currency with an "enhanced uncirculated finish" quickly sold out a 50,000 mintage, though at a price of only $13.95 each. Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Johnson releases are also due out this year with 17,000 coin mintages, excepting the Kennedy coin which is slated to have a mintage of 25,000. No mention as to whether these coins would feature a reverse proof coin.
Given the above I see the following: The Truman coin will be sold out the first day. Some people will get shutout and scream that there shouldn't have been a 5 coin limit per household, but rather it should have only been 1. Price of the coin will more than double immediately. Some dealers will be selling large quantities of the coins the same day (if not before). Shopping channels will feature them on their shows at triple the price with some fancy label that will be must have on PCGS and NGC graded slabs. A few days later mint officials will apologize and say they are looking into how the sale was handled and promise to do better in the future.

Pretty much....not on the FDR coins though. Let people know that there's something for sale, and there may not be enough them.....everyone will want one.

Has anyone seen any of the previous Coin and Chronicle "medals" in a TPG holder?

Are they even recognizing them at this point in time? If they are or are going to I think that would add an increase tot he value of the sets since the hobby seems to now be investment and TPG centric.

You can find Columbian Expo medals and badges in slabs, Trans Mississippi Expo, Civil war commemorative medals, and even the modern day 9/11 World Trade Center medal.

Do not know, do not care.

I actually keep these sets intact.

But I am curious, so I suppose in the end I do care it only for that reason.

It's only a matter of time before the TPGs start grading OGP. It actually might make sense for C&C sets.

I think I'll start a business. Forget you ever saw this.

I believe both NGC and PCGS have slabbed the medals.

The internet is forever!

I would still not want my graded even if they kept the set intact. There is no added value for myself.

This article has some nice photos of the coins.

http://www.coinnews.net/2015/07/02/...and-sellout/

Honestly, the image of Truman RP looks a little "mushy" to me, but that might just be the photo itself.

edit: oops, I see someone posted this in the U.S. Modern thread as well.
