down in the south that probably qualifies as an introduction. if its someone I'mfriends or family with ill ask if I'mgenuinely interested. and sometimes ill avoid the question when I feel like they want me to ask lol.

Quote: down in the south that probably qualifies as an introduction. I do not think I have ever been asked something like this at a coin show. However, in the south such a query would generally be prefaced with something like, "I hope you do not mind me asking" or something along those lines to make it known that an answer is not expected, but appreciated.

Jbuck- I live in TN, and your statement regarding southern etiquette is exactly correct. This is how it's done down here.

I would have told him it was none of his business and to perform a certain act upon himself. Then perhaps I might tell him how rude such a question is to ask a stranger. If he was wearing a dealers' identification I would never so much as to even look at the coins he is selling.

Quote: "I hope you do not mind me asking" that is how I would address that question to one I didnt know. however I wouldnt expect others around here too. a hobby like this might bring out a bit classier characters but if this was in reference to a gun show I wouldnt bat an eye at being asked so bluntly.

Down Texas way, if we stab you in the back, at least it will be on the porch with a Ice Cold glass of Sweet Tea in your hand.

You can have my sweet tea when you pry it from my cold, dead hands. Wait! That is not what I meant...

It always amazes me how people get cranked up over the most minor little thing.i am sure the question posed was met in a most benign way and no harm or mean spirit was involved. Been on the back end of that question many times. Best answer smile and say the cost was minimal ,the pride of owning it priceless. This makes the person who just got in your face walk away mumbling something short of unintelligible.

Depends on the location and environment. Even on a bourse floor here in Philly, I am taking a risk by not assuming the worst.

Ah.... SsuperDdave ...I guess that is the difference of living in the home of the Broadstreet Bullies as compared to living in LaLa land. Although once I did witness a fist fight break out at a Vancouver coin show!! .

I think he just wanted to know if he got ripped off. Because he bought identical to yours and he could tell that you were more knowledgeable than he.

I would have just said WHAT? And walked away. OR a counter question like How much money do you have in your wallet?
