The reason I asked is that you hear about certain large advertisers selling dipped or cleaned coins as Choice BU, etc and I was wondering if there was a stigma associated with a slider. I'm really just trying to learn the ropes and lingo so to speak. I would not have a problem with an AU coin that looks MS, provided I was able to determine it was indeed AU and not overpriced.

Love sliders! Especially if they're priced as AU and not as MS62/63.

Sliders are a wonderful way to get a coin which "seems" BU, but at an AU price. People specialize in this particular grade. The stigma is only associated with those who would overstate or overcharge for a slider.

Sliders are good when you buying them as sliders. When they're sold as something better than AU58, then not so good.

Great collector grade. Almost all of the beauty of a B.U. usually at a nice savings. I think many clean sliders look better than a beat up bag marked coin. Many gold coins look fantastic in AU58, and sell for a fraction of what an MS62-63 would sell for. I like em'! Mike

Thanks everybody. Prethen I really like 3CN's and plan on starting up a collection of them. Something about coins of that era fascinate me. My only question is whether to collect raw or slabbed ones. I'm leaning toward raw ones...Know any good resources on them (books, etc)?

Sliders are great for the right price, and sometimes even the top grading companies send them back as MS.

So say we all. The Liberty gold coins generally look better in AU-58 than in MS-61 and even MS-62 for far less money. As for the TV series, it really went downhill after they killed off the Professor.

i love finding sliders that are labeled so because of roll/bag abrasion =D
everyone always talks about dealers overgrading; I like the opposite
