I know what you mean Thingee! I am very new at this,but it's so hard to see, yet so hard to part with even the ones that aren't worth anything. I think I read where some of the group likened it to parting with their children! I have 22 of these poor things that have been injured--I'm a nurse and always want to make it better, but these I can't! The 1829 one is in primo shape except for the dern hole! Alas, I think they will all be confined to the bottom of the box (dungeon)!ha

gussyboy1, Still no image. After you add the image (green camera icon below) be sure to remove everything before "http" and everything after ".jpg". Then highlight all the remaining text and click on the "add image" icon above. To make sure you did it correctly, use the preview button below. Your image should be visible in the preview.  |

Ok I can click on the link and see the pic ... poor thing! It won't pass muster as a collector piece due to the extent of damage and its location. It looks like that one was shot rather than drilled. Some of these get bids on ebay but again this one probably won't get that much due to the extent of damage. Some get ridiculously high bids on ebay due to the seller's marketing. For example they would list this one as "Annie Oakly sharpshooter piece ... a souvenir from a 19th century sharpshooting exhibition". Of course they can't substantiate anything.  Edited by SeatedNut

The coin could still be worth 10.00 to the right person . your Dad bought and collected what He liked ,,there is nothing wrong in that. in fact it is absolutely normal for a collector ,, there are whole sub groups of folks out here who collect what some see as worthless valueless coins ,die cracks,chips ,grease filled ,corroded,dateless, the list goes on and on . The coin except for the holes is a pretty nice coin with good details and for the 10.00 your Dad had an example of a very pretty and historic coin for a meer fraction of what one in that grade without the holes would cost . It's hard to provide a value for damaged coins. In general, coins with holes lose virtually all numismatic value. Unless there are rare dates involved, I'd guess $10 for the bust Half Dimes and $5 for the seated is a reasonable estimate of market value. |

If you want to sell it, your best bet would be ebay. I agree with the rest that there really is no collector value to it because of the extensive damage. It might have more value to it if it's an extremely rare die marriage. |

I agree with Metalman. Buy what you like! I paid full PCGS retail price for a $10 Indian. I guess it can be said I paid too much. This $10 Indian is my favorite coin, maybe. I'm tempted to take it out of the slab just to get the feel of it ( I wont). Anyway, that's all I have to say about that.  |
