Looks like a weak strike. That is one awesome find. Where did you find it?

It just came in a box of old nix I bought along w/ some 90% here while back. I didn't know I had it until I started going through the box. I thought it was a mint error coin so I thought I'd post some pix of it. I guess these have some value w/error collectors? I'll post some pics of the edge here when I get a chance!

thanks for the responses!, m

Cool looking error indeed. Before I pass judgment, I would be curious or verify that it makes 5.0gr? Rookies thoughts. Thanks, Doug.

Halo... it weighs 5.024 grams so, the planchet was right. I've got to surmise the strike was just light. In 1964, how were these coins struck? air hammer or hydraulic? I'm guessing air; it's way way faster!

I would weigh it also it doesn't look like the coin fits on the planchet. Can we see the rim too. And weigh it please. I suppose if it was so weakly struck that it didn't flatten out enough to expand to the right size. I definitely would weigh it 5 grams and is a nickle weakly struck. More or less let us know

Weights good. Nice find weak strike.

As for air or Hydraulic, I'd be guessing Hydraulic. Strike force is adjustable so can vary. Also machines run on electrical power, which can shutdown at a moments notice. Just a rookies theory. Thanks, Doug.

It should be pretty valuable. There's almost nothing on it except the most important thing, the date.

They also do test strikes to dial in pressure used. I'm wondering if this is a test and it slipped out of the mint somehow?
