i dont even bother looking for those things I see so many 2000 SACs it would drive me insane counting feathers. I would rather spend my eyes looking for the near rim variant of SBA just because I might actually be able to make a roll of those one year.

As far as I know, the US government has never melted any clad coinage en masse. I strongly suspect it will happen someday, since between melting and letting them circulate, melting seems to be the most plausible of the two.
To add to it further, it has been confirmed that some of the Cheerios dollars are regular circulation dies. These make up a very small minority of the known Cheerios dollars, but less than 2% of the total population is accounted for.

I have one actually and had a guy with another when we went through his collection. The one was in a shoe box. Reader's Digest was this kid was just the definition of a punk. He had a bunch of junk and thought he was so smart he was telling all these people he inherited the coin (probably true) and it was silver......it was all clad Ikes and cheap Littleton coins. Well he wanted $300. He was just hoping some novice would confuse the silver proof 1970s Ike dollars and buy them for thinking $300 was a great price. He had about $25 total, RETAIL in this box. BUT.....he had 4 Cheerios things. 3 were just the super common pennies but one had the dollar. I could not believe it. It was just too perfect. I called him a dozen times and he finally answered and gave him $300 that day. What is nice is this kid apparently was REAL slime ball. He ripped some real estate guy off on some other deal and had tried selling Chinese counterfeit Air Jordans. I kept the coin for a year and sold it. Day I sold it I texted him a link with the value on a "Cheerios Dollar". He called me 3 times in about a 10 minute period after that text. I did not answer. What is important to remember is NOT ALL "Cheerios Dollars" are the real pattern. Some are just regular 2000 $1 Sacs. Considering were are near a decade after its discovery and an astounding few of them have showed up (Less than a 100) it seems to be established a vast majority of them were spent. I mean 95% people on this forum probably had never even heard of it and even less have looked for one.

I've been looking for cheerios dollars whenever I get dollar coins from the bank to hunt. Even though I doubt I will ever find one I figure it's worth the effort. Besides, it's fun to look for it.

While looking, don't forget to look for the Wide Rim 1979 Susan B. :-)

I have found about 7 wide rims idk why they are worth much more they are not hard to find. As far as the cheerios dollar. I used to get boxes upon boxes from the bank of 1 dollar coins very fun to look through . I found quiet a few proofs and other interesting coins but no cheerios dollar. They are easy to recognize idk what he was talking about above me with counting feathers? It's the detail that's different and it's very noticeable with a glance. One day I will find one

No harm in looking unless you do something dumb like sneak a peak while pitching your 'Jerry' sitcom to NBC with your buddy George.
Not hard to ID the Cheerios Dollar from the amount of detail. Well worth the second or two of your time.
None of these are getting found in the wild either so their might even be like 2 seconds of fame involved here.
Numismatic fame anyway if that counts.

Haha. Wide rim! I meant 1979 near dates. I guess they are called both.

I look all the time for a Cheerio's dollar and have never found one. I compare that to looking for a 1943 copper Wheat cent but who knows. .......he he

I've always thought that flea markets and yard sales would be the places to look for one of these dollars. I dream of a disinterested kid having once pulled one of these coins out of his cereal box and then throwing it in a drawer, never realizing its value or significance. Then the kid eventually moves out and mom goes through his room gathering items for her garage sale...

I never knew that some of those Cheerios packages had dollars. I've got a couple with the pennies, but sadly none with the dollars. I'll have to check when I get dollars from the bank.

Quote: Numismatic fame anyway if that counts. Who cares what the outsiders think. Numismatic fame is all that counts. I've been looking for these for years. However, being 15 years old, I don't make a lot of transactions, nor do I need to. That being said, I very very rarely receive dollar coins in change, so I have probably searched maybe 2 or 3 2000-P's.
