No. BU is "brilliant uncirculated" which is interchangeable only with non numerical MS

Also, if the coin is mint state and stained or just with horrible eye appeal it stands for... Butt Ugly

XF is both sexier and trendier than EF.

Super Bowl XXXIV
Xtra Gum
S, M, L and XL for extra large
Magic Mike XXL
etc. etc. etc.

Yes I am joking!

I am trying to train myself to XF and not EF. That seems to be the going trend.

I always assumed it was dependant on where the coin was graded...

The difference between EF and XF is what they stood for. EF is Extremely Fine while XF is generally used in the context of Extra Fine. There are arguments that Extra Fine (XF) is misleading compared to Extremely Fine (mainly in terms of defining how much is Extra?)Both EF and XF are the same intended grade however how it is expressed is what causes the difference. In Australia we use Extremely Fine however XF seems to be an American thing.

I guess same thing goes for people who say PO2 and FR2.

I rarely ever hear people use PO2, it's mostly FR2. I know on TPG's they use FR2 and not PO2. Same goes with FR1 and PO1. Usually you see PO1 on TPG's.

PO is PO1 on the Sheldon scale and not PO2 it is Fair 2 . Just to clarify .

Not on the original Sheldon scale, it isn't. I learned the Sheldon scale as a child from the 1983 Charlton catalogue, where it was taught that the three lowest grades were "Basal State" (BS-1), "Poor" (P-2) and then About Good (AG-3). "Fair" didn't get a guernsey. The terminology of the lower grade-numbers seems to have been changed to Poor-Fair-About Good sometime in the mid-1980s, with the advent of the TPGs. So I suspect that it is "older collectors" who will refer to "PO-2".
