Looking good so far

It is always a nice feeling to fill those holes.

Just two or three harder ones left.

Thanks for all the encouragement! Every Saturday morning at 7 AM I go down to my local LCS and the owner lets me go through all of his raw Peace dollars that he has received that week. He always lets me have my choice for either $20, $21, or $22 no matter the date, MM, or condition (I've never quite figured out what price he's going to give me from one day to the next, but I don't complain lol). One day, he had a giant canvas bag full of Peace dollars that he let me go through (the picture is below). That was fun! I know I won't find my '21 or '28 that way, but I've managed to build a decent collection so far for relatively inexpensive prices. I'm hoping to fill some of my other holes from him also before I tackle the last couple of difficult ones. Sorry for rambling!

rahtbarg...your building a nice collection. Consider yourself lucky that you have a place like that you can go to every week. All the coin shops I know about around me have closed up and moved on. I wish I had a place like that to go.

Well Done. I was wondering how you were able to collect such nice coins for $22 and under. I have a full slab collection of Peace dollars and most the coins are MS except the 1928 is AU55 and I am envious of your collection. I do have a special 1921 Peace dollar graded MS61 with a full strike.

Good luck on getting you key dates.

Way to shiny to be called a poor man's set. I would say upper middle class for sure

Ps, are the laws of physics suspended in that lcs?

I filled in all the more common Peace dollars and then one day I just lined up the ones I needed and bought them all for about $500. This included a 1928 in AU condition and 34-s and 1921 and one more. I think it is not a bad way to do it since when you just have a few left the pressure will build to finish the collection. I am going to collect LSQ's and probably leave the 1916 until last unless I find a very good deal on a G or VG coin. I am not buying some piece of junk where I cannot read the date clearly. I will surround the 1916 with filled holes and then pounce when the time is right, or maybe get one today is the price is right and I can find one.

The coin dealer I do most business with believes the Peace dollar is undervalued. You cannot compare it to the Morgan's but there is no other coin like it in the 20th Century and not likely to ever be one again. The Silver Eagle is a beautiful image but it is not a real coin. It is just a piece of silver 1oz in the form of a coin.

Thanks for posting the pictures....Your Peace dollar set is coming along VERY nicely~!! I don't see a thing "poor" about it I am a bit jealous that I don't have a nice shop I could go to and look through all their coins. That is awesome!
