Adding my to you ... and concurrence that this is indeed a valued 1999 WAM LMC.

Noting to add to the already solid advice on using (pure) acetone to hopefully remove the gunk.

Personally ... I would skip the tooth brush and use Q-Tips.

Not sure about your information about ambient lighting? Could you post where this information was.

bpoc1, I believe I first read it in this topic. Scroll to the end or the last 2 replies past yours for more info. Thanks, Doug.

SheltieGuy1966, Follow up on cleaning. Hopefully the gunk will dissolve and not require extra effort more than a second rinse acetone.

Key is leaving a little gunk will not hurt the value as much as a rub or a scrub mark will.

If extra effort is required or desired then a green thorn from a rose bush, soft jewelers brush, softest babies tooth brush, or a Qtip can help dislodge stubborn gunk.

The lightest touch (no scrubbing) is recommended as its easy to get carried away and do damage that can't be undone to the coins surface.

Hello from another new member. Just posted my first discussion topic today as well. I auctioned off an average circulated (no gunk on it though) 1999 Wide AM on ebay several years ago, and it ended up selling it in the mid $80 range. Also, as there's generally a few being sold on ebay at any given time, you might want to take a look there to see how they're doing -- especially if similar in wear and appearance to your coin. Congrats on your find. Must have been a great feeling to see that space between the A & the M.

This is a great find! I remember when this variety was first discovered, the finder contacted me, told me what he found and asked if I wanted to buy them. I said no, that there were already a 1998 and a 2000 and that adding a third date to the mix of those I already had for sale in my CW and NN ads would just make the variety appear commonplace, as if they could be found on all dates for the era. When he said he only wanted $5 each I thought about it for a moment and decided to take the "chance" on a variety that I felt could have turned out to be common. So I purchased 50 for $250. I sold most of that 50 in one day through a mention of them on USENET's rec.collecting.coins for $25 to $35 each. I figured I'd sell on of two but they flew out the door! As prices soared upward, I adjusted my price accordingly. When they reached the $100 level the fellow offered me another 25 pieces and I paid $25 each for those. Shortly later, another fellow found around 100 of them selling 50 to me and 50 to another dealer, with the owner saying I paid more than the other fellow because I got the cream of the crop roll. At that time I never would have known the coin was going to eventually reach up into the $750 range for MS65s. It's dropped back some since then but out of the 150 or so pieces of this variety I've been able to acquire over the years, I still have most of the very top grades that I feel are MS66 to MS67 (about seven or eight of them that still need to be graded).
It's been my pleasure to see and be the first to report upon the discoveries of the 1992, 1992-D, 1998-S and 1999-S Close AM varieties and the 1999 Wide AM. It's been an even greater pleasure to be able to put one of each of all of the Close and Wide AM "better" varieties in my collection. I think the neatest 1999 Wide AM I found was the one that was Off Center picked from a local dealers table for about $2.50.

Hindsight. If only you had a crystal ball Ken!

Nice find SG66! I've flipped many for the last couple of years without luck . But I'm with the masses on this variety. Good company.

I have a dwarf Lime Tree and have found it's thorns work quite well, too. The are longer (1 1/2" to 2") and easier to hold.

Wow!! I guess I didn't realize how rare they actually were. I have only been searching rolls for a couple of weeks. Found this in my third batch of rolls, and I only buy $10 at a time due to limited space and the fact that I'm really slow going through them.

Nice score sheltie. Only weeks! Well soon you will get a lifelong fever brought on by a specific bug bite that only seems to effect us coin people to which there is no cure

On a side note I have all these that one day I will start seaching but I doubt will ever finish...

Welcome to the jungle!

Wow Cascade, that's a lot of cents! Maybe that's where all the 1982 ddrs and 1995d ddos are hiding! :)

I've only found one single 1999 WAM CRHing. I don't even know if it was CRHing; it's been awhile. (maybe 6 years...haha)

It's a corroded AU details piece. Still waiting to find a decent one.

Inside of 3000 cents searched and you haven't found the 'easy' ones;1998 and 2000. You are off to. Great start! You'll flip hundreds of those to no avail. But you'll find them. The 1999 is a special find and worth the effort. The rough part for you is since you struck gold on the first shovel you might be a bit dejected as you continue to CRH without significant pay dirt. Don't be. You just got a lucky break early. Some get it in the middle and some get it late. One guesstimate is that you'll flip 50,000 coins and find only one notable find.

I'm having fun with this ...as long as I am finding a few Wheaties, it's cool. I may be addicted!
