The incuse wall design definitely pinpoints this as a 1917 SLQ. The excuse wall design of the 1916 would have LONG gone with this wear.

I agree, this coin has been intentionally altered to hide most of the 1917 characteristics.

To be fair, the seller might just be excited and fooling himself. Sometimes it's easy to see things you want to see. "Still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest".

They do even include the diagnostics image that I've seen shared around this forum a few times to show that the coin is actually a '17! You can tell by the hair and the drapery by the feet.

I think this might be priced a little high even if it was a 1916. But the seller is accepting offers, so... I think $3 is about right.

Since this coin is "a must for a true collector," none of us must be true collectors.

"My loss is your gain": anytime you hear that phrase, run away as quickly as possible!

Glack! That is one seriously ugly and ill treated 1917.

I gave the poor guy the benefit of the doubt and offered $3.19, well above all the rest of you "non-collectors" who don't see the true bargain this represents.

Isn't he just hurting himself with his decision to keep it raw? I know I wouldn't even consider a raw one if I was buying a coin that is worth that much money.

He declined my offer of 3.50

I'm just waiting for a seller to accidentally accept one of my lowball offers.

Revisiting this old forum and I clicked on the old link and found this.

I am not familiar with PCGS but do they slab coins with no numerical grading on it? Strange that he keeps on going on about the case being authentic.

Huh. Might be real.

Still seems like an odd listing though.
