I agree, these are pretty crude (and in the case of an 1878? Seated dollar, stupid) fakes. |

I messaged him telling him that both were fake and that he's being tracked by us. I told him it's a federal felony to sell fake numismatic items, and that he needs to take these down and mark them with COPY on back.

Reported to ebay for both coins. The more of us who report this, the faster ebay will pull them and save some poor person a fake arriving in the mail box. |

Who was the incredible, trusted seller? The items have already been taken down which is great but I would like to know who it was so I can at least be aware if I am ever looking at future coins.

I also reported...and sent this message. Dear super_fuely, Just FYI...counterfeit coin. I would remove the listing as it is prohibited to list coins that are not marked "copy". This one clearly isn't.. here is the response: Hello, Thank you for the info, I'll make sure who buys it knows it is a copy. You have nice feedback 5500+ Why are you listing this Chinese crap copies? and the response: Hello, As mentioned, I do not know what they are. Even copies have collector value. Looking at the stuff he has to sell, most of it is not coins. Looks like maybe he hunts for stuff at garage and estate sales and then resells on ebay. He probably had no idea that the coins are counterfeit is my guess. |
