Why not do the right thing and send them back , how would you like it if someone did that to you.

I'd have trouble doing that, even though its the right thing. Stuff like that doesn't happen very often, they hardly lose anything from it. I say its a sweet deal :)

I guess it depends on how you look at honesty and integrity and what your values are.

If it was some small shop, small institution I would consider doing the right thing. Considering this is the mint. My order mistake is no hit to thenpockets of the government. If I was better off economically I would reconsider doing the right thing as well.

I agree with sleak. Being from the Mint, no biggie. Of course I wouldnt do something like this to anyone else really. Besides, I think I give the government plenty of cash that gets wasted anyways.

I agree- I would keep it too (whatever it is). The mint is probably in a better position that anyone to cover the cost of lost coinage :-)
I'm going to go wait by the mailbox for mine!

What ever it was I would give it back and tell them that they made an error and that you would pay the difference. If anything the Mint has bottom line prices and fair to the collector, whereas, profit shops overcharge. Where else can you get a Double Die or an error coin practically at face value. Maybe, you can hit them for a job due to your honesty. Just playing Devil's advocate! It's your decision?

Let me throw this in the oven and see if it bakes...
I once received a sizable credit on my phone bill. It was not earned, so I called to have it corrected. They thanked me for being honest and I got a warm fuzzy!
Well, that did not last long.
My automatic draft kicked in (paying less than normal for the bill) before the credit was corrected. I then get harassed about having an unpaid bill and threatened with disconnection! It took several phone calls to get it "corrected". So much for their Customer Service records about my good deed!
Ferengi Rule of Acquisition #285: No good deed ever goes unpunished.
My point? Well, it is probably lost somewhere. I think I am cynical enough to think that correcting the Mint's error might backfire.

jbuck, Nice story about what inevitably happens in large bureaucracies. Correcting this might mean that they'll cancel all your subscriptions and never send another commemorative, proof or mint set!
