I don't think it will lower the value of the gold plated version.
IMHO, painting over the design of circulation coin is like creating graphic novels base on some classic novels, it is like creating a graphic novel for Wuthering Heights. It is open to the painter's interpretation, and that means it might looks good now, but become outdated in a few years.
What's so great and so attractive about the gold plated version is that it is using the classic design of the coins, which has withstand the test of time, and that is what lure collectors to the gold plated set.
If this is only a colourize version of the big coin series, I have my doubts these will sell out. That's the problem with too many lame commissioned coins, who cares about a coloured loonie, they would have been better to offer a 2.15 kilo copper penny, I hope a lot of collectors like myself will not purchase such a lame excuse for another version set, I also believe these colour version will devalue the original big coins, especially if these do not sell out, I for one will not purchase any.
I received my Flanders Fields $3.00 coin on Friday and was very pleased with it. I believe it features a historically meaningful design that is also artistically expressed.
Laurie McGaw, who also designed the $20 In Flanders Fields coin released earlier this year, did a nice job of presenting significant detail on a small "canvas."

"In Flanders fields" coin just great and very balanced.
Unlike, to expected today (cause we ahead of Australia) pop artish stuff - Back to the Future (painted hooverboard and plastic DeLorian), these truly commemorative masterpieces.
Well, still might be worth to login to Perth Mint, NZ Mint and other sources and load as much as possible and resell - people like this stuff, so the hype guaranteed (only at the beginning, after - will be forgotten)
Drusy is still available at issue price at quite a few dealers. The mintage is quite low at 4000, surprised to see they are not completely sold out. I think I would like to have the geometry in art coin over this one.
Relic could you please post a pic of your drusy stone coin prior to returning it. I enjoy seeing the in hand pics. People seldom post photos anymore, I miss it!!
